Rick Macen

Rick started out his musical life at a young age with 5 years of training on the accordion.  His father Bill Macen was well known music teacher in Calgary and made sure Rick had a solid foundation in music theory.  He then took up the bass guitar at age 13 and has never looked back. "When I listened to music I was always hearing the bass and that's what attracted me to playing bass."

Rick has played professionally on and off for over 30 years in live and studio settings. He has played Rock, Metal, Country, Jazz, Blues, and Fusion playing with with the bands White Summer, The Black Sheep Band, The Eric Jensen Blues Band, Rock Isl Lake, Pilot, Lead Balloon, String Theory,  The Dusty Hand Reggae Band, and Silk Mischief.

His musical influences include: Rush, Lead Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Weather Report, Al Di Meola, and various Blues, Funk and Fusion groups.

Rick currently lives in Nanaimo and is involved in several music projects including Roctane!
